The Pindakoek became popular in the 30's in the Netherlands. The Chinese community in the Netherlands was hit hard during the financial crisis. Many became unemployed. An old sailor named Ng Kwa started selling Pindakoeken as a streetvendor. In no time there were suddenly Pindakoeken streetvendors everywhere in the Netherlands! The pindakoek was quickly adopted by the Dutch and added to the Dutch biscuit staple.
