Aniseseed pits/ Haverstro

Haverstro is an old Dutch candy with an anise seed flavour. The candies are shaped like a flat pear. They are also called haverstro pitten, because it is shaped like a pit . They have a medium aniseseed flavour and brittle texture (a bit like cinnamon pillows). Very weird and delicious!

Dutch haverstro trivia

There isn't much known about the history of Haverstro. First mention we managed to find is that Venco made them in the early 1900's. 

 Not to be confused with real haverstro which is oat straw or hulled oats!
