Classic Dutch sweets / Oud Hollandsche snoep mix

This mix of soft pillows and hard sweets is a true classic. This old-fashioned Dutch mix is sure to bring back memories.  

Richard still remembers the roomboterwafels (buttered waffle candy) from when he was a kid: in the store where mum bought flour and yeast, there was a bowl on the counter with roomboterwafels and every customer was allowed to take one. 

This mix contains: 
kaneelkussentjes (cinnamon pillows), 
roomboterwafels (buttered waffle candy),
framboosjes (raspberry rounds),
pepermuntkussentjes (peppermint pillows),
dropkussentjes (liquorice pillows), 
groentjes (we think it is Reine Claude)

Dutch candy trivia

In the 16th century the first sweets were made. At the time it was still called 'suikerwerk' (sugar works). Only affordable for the elite as it was made from the expensive sugarcane. Once sugar beet was discovered in the late 18th century, sugar became more affordable.

German emperors liked the Dutch sugar candies so much they imported them from the Netherlands.
